ALVIN – Despite Thursday night’s homecoming 35-0 setback to the Clear Creek Wildcats, the buzz continues to reverberate throughout the Jacket football program.  In front of a packed house at Alvin Memorial Stadium, enthusiasm and grit were palpable as the team continues to make incremental progress with head coach Tim Teykl pushing ahead with his revamp.  Looking for its first win of the year and currently at 0-2 in District 24-6A action, the Jackets (0-6) battled until the clock was 0:00 on a night brimming with pride and resolve.

Following its first points of the season last week against Clear Lake, Alvin showed a spark offensively against Clear Creek.  The team moved the ball well against the Wildcats, yet at times showed the growing pains that comes with installing new concepts.  In fact, a few untimely penalties and ball-handling miscues erased at least 17 points from the scoreboard for the Jackets.

Defensively, the Jackets were stout but fell prey to chunk plays which were mere shoestring tackles away from losses or small gains.  Two of Clear Creek’s scores were on runs of 35-yards and 66-yards, respectively, and both plays were nearly bottled up by the Jackets.  Again, growing pains.

Despite the team’s struggles on the night, Jacket Pride still burns hot.  2019 Homecoming will go down as a festive night full of joy, passion and hope.  No doubt, the team will continue to abide by its unofficial mantra – “drinking (making) the Kool-Aid”.  Expect the Jackets to be a tough adversary for the remainder of the season as the team works to overcome adversity while building a contender for the long haul.
